PhD in Leukemia Genetics

A 3-years PhD position is available in the Genetics of Leukemia group of the St. Anna Kinderkrebsforschung, Children’s Cancer Research Institute, headed by Sabine Strehl, PhD.

The main topic of our research is the characterization of leukemia-associated genetic alterations. In this respect, we have recently identified several novel fusion genes that involve PAX5, a master regulator of B-cell commitment and maintenance, and we now aim at elucidating their role in the pathogenesis of B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

The ideal candidate should hold a MSc or equivalent degree, have a keen interest in cancer research and a strong background in molecular biology. Practical skills in at least one of the following techniques: ChIP, EMSA, transfection or viral transduction approaches, tissue culture, cloning, and Western blotting would be advantageous but are not a prerequisite.
