The Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture (TIK) at the University of Oslo (UiO) invites candidate to apply for  a three- year Ph.D. Research Fellowship.

The Centre wishes to recruit a Ph.D. candidate with extensive knowledge of innovation studies, as well as demonstrated research capabilities and strong interest in the development of innovation research both theoretically and empirically. The candidate’s work will be situated with the Centre’s research programme ”Innovation.” This programme is focused on understanding the role of innovations in regional and national economic growth, the factors that determine innovations in resource-based economies, universities’ roles in innovation and societal processes, and the importance of innovations in societal transitions to sustainable technologies. Research within the programme uses historical and contemporary source material, as well as interdisciplinary methods and analytical resources.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a two years Master’s degree or equivalent in the social sciences or humanities.

The purpose of the Ph.D. Research Fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a doctoral degree. The successful candidate will be automatically accepted for the research-training programme (Ph.D. programme) at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Oslo. In addition to their own research work, fellows may be required to participate in teaching and/or administration activities connected to research and teaching at the Centre. All work of this nature conducted will be compensated with equivalent extension of the duration of the research fellowship. It is not possible to have extensions that exceed twelve months.

 Evaluation of the application

When evaluating the application, emphasis will be given to the applicant’s project description for his/her proposed Ph.D. project, as well as the applicant’s academic and personal prerequisites to carry out this project. A good match between the candidate's proposal and the centre's activities and competences is a main selection criterion along with the quality of the proposal and the qualifications of the candidate.

Interviews will be part of the appointment process.

  • Project description and progress plan (no more than 5 pages) for the work to be undertaken during the course of the term of appointment
  • CV (summarising education, positions and academic work)
  • Copies of educational certificates and letters of recommendation
  • A complete list of publications
  • Examples of written work (2-3) that the applicant wishes to be considered by the evaluation committee
